Compliance Solutions

The SmartCEMS®-75 Predictive Emission Monitoring System (PEMS) provides continuous data recording and report generation for gas turbine compliance with 40 CFR Part 75 and 40 CFR Part 60 regulations. The data acquisition system provides a secure and reliable means of collecting and retrieving compliance data. This application has been customized to meet the requirements of gas turbines under the applicable regulations including 40 CFR Part 60, Appendix GG; 40CFR Part 75, Appendix D and E for peaking units; and as a predictive emissions monitoring system (PEMS), an alternative to continuous emissions monitoring under Subpart E of 40 CFR Part 75, for base load units.

Products

The CMC PEMS software (SmartCEMS) has an easy to use graphic user interface and is designed to work with existing process or emissions monitoring systems. The software is modular with components such as:

  • PEMS Analyzer
  • Configuration Tools
  • Compliance Assurance Monitor
  • Alternative Emission Monitor
  • Continuous Parametric Monitor
  • Virtual Process Analyzer
  • Continuous Parametric Monitor – Flare

CMC Solutions offers advanced environmental monitoring equipment, including SmartCEMS software components. Our CMC product line includes the SmartCEMS PEMS Analyzer, Configuration Tools. Compliance Assurance Monitor, Continuous Parametric Monitor, Virtual Process Analyzer, and Continuous Parametric Monitor Flare. These advanced PEMS software components are designed to interface with existing process or emission monitoring systems. The software component solutions are cost-effective solutions where complete SmartCEMS packaged systems are not practical (i.e., at sites with many similar units that are remotely located, sites that recently invested in an advanced emission monitoring or process control systems, sites with existing SQL database that contain the process data, and for our OEM partners to deploy as part of a complete ‘turnkey’ project).

Find the right predictive emissions monitoring system hardware at CMC Solutions. Our PEMS hardware solutions include customized workstations and servers for any of our systems or components along with the SmartCEMS RTU. The SmartCEMS RTU is our most cost-effective SmartCEMS® product designed for remote combustion units, micro-turbines, gas pipeline compressor stations, and many other applications where complete systems are not practical to operate and maintain.

SmartCEMS RTU is a complete predictive emissions monitoring system offered at an extremely competitive price. The SmartCEMS RTU consists of a ruggedized hardware device that contains a Windows XP embedded processor running in protected mode on uninterruptible power. The SmartCEMS RTU boots

up off EPROM and utilizes 1GB static RAM with no hard drive, providing an extremely reliable platform with a rich set of connectivity options.

Typically, a serial interface exists with the process control system, an Ethernet port is maintained for interface with the local area network at the site, and a serial port is available for remote configuration via a laptop. Other connectivity options include modem, wireless, and removable media. The SmartCEMS RTU is fully programmed and comes in a wall mount enclosure for installation in a conditioned environment, such as a plant control room or outside in a weather-tight enclosure

Aside from PEMS hardware and software components, CMC Solutions provides complete emissions management systems. SmartCEMS, for example, allows customers to continue to leverage their existing emissions and process monitoring equipment with more precision than a traditional CEMS. SmartCEMS components were developed for maximum flexibility in deployment.

In addition to the complete system mentioned before, together with our business alliance partners, CMC can deliver and configure just the specific system component required to complete the compliance solution at any given site. Component solutions are classified broadly as CEMS, SmartCEMS hardware, and SmartCEMS software categories. The CEMS category includes emission monitoring options such as fixed, mobile, and temporary CEMS, CEMS service and air emission testing, and CEMS quality assurance support.

From SmartCEMS to PEMS emissions hardware and software components, CMC Solutions provides only the best-in-class products and support. To accommodate strict EPA compliance reporting requirements, as well as the individual requirements of the site, our predictive emissions monitoring systems are designed to be open, flexible, and adaptive. SmartCEMS combines on-site field information, support, and quality assurance to ensure the collection of accurate and reliable data. CMC Solutions provides complete SmartCEMS, CAMS, AMS, AEMS, CAMS, CPMS, and other PEMS emissions solutions.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The SmartCEMS®-75 PEMS was designed to operate on a personal computer with a standard interface to the turbine and a relational database such as the one provided with a third party supplied data acquisition system. The application itself actually consists of two independent databases and three configurable application modules. The first database is secured and contains only data (both raw collected data that is not editable and historical data formatted as specified by the applicable regulations) as well as a compliance message archive with operator comments. The second database contains compliance reporting data including collections statuses, summarized and calculated fields, and formatted EDR components. The first application is the data acquisition module that runs on startup of the system and collects the data continuously providing compliance emissions data for reporting purposes. There are two other independent SmartCEMS®-75 components that work with the data acquisition service. The second application provides the operator interface for display of real-time data, display and acknowledgement of compliance alarms, and input of operator data including gas sampling results and certification test results. The third application provides the reporting and EDR generation capacities. Both of these applications that support the operator and interface with the data and the data acquisition service can be run from any workstation on the local area network

DATA SECURITY AND REPORTING

The system software utilizes multiple levels of security to protect the data and the application software itself. Although the system is configurable and flexible, the data collected is protected in its raw collected form indefinitely. Report generation is initiated through the operator interface and includes generation of U.S. EPA 40 CFR Part 60 compliance reports, U.S. EPA 40 CFR Part 75 data reports in the latest Electronic Data Reporting (EDR) format, and custom reports configurable by the end user. The system is designed to efficiently collect data for environmental monitoring and also to make that data available for use in real-time optimization strategies. The system is provided in an open environment readily networked to other process and control machines.
